Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 April 2026
Neglect.co.uk ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We keep things as simple and transparent as possible.
In short: We use analytics to understand how people find and use our site. If you sign up for launch notifications, we store your email address with our mailing list provider. We do not sell your data to anyone.
1. Who we are
Neglect.co.uk is an independent UK information resource about safeguarding and neglect. The site is operated by Cohoda, a UK-based company. If you have questions about this policy or your data, you can contact us at privacy@neglect.co.uk.
2. What data we collect
2.1 Analytics data (automatic)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use our site. GA4 collects:
- Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
- How you arrived (search engine, direct visit, referral link)
- General location (country and city level, not your exact address)
- Device type, browser, and screen size
- Interactions such as clicks on links and form submissions
GA4 uses first-party cookies to distinguish between visitors. We have IP anonymisation enabled. Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC under their privacy policy.
2.2 Email address (voluntary)
If you sign up to be notified when the full site launches, we collect your email address. This is stored by our email service provider, EmailOctopus (Three Fifteen Labs Ltd, UK). We use your email address solely to send you launch updates. We will not send unsolicited marketing or share your address with third parties.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us at privacy@neglect.co.uk.
2.3 What we do not collect
We do not collect:
- Your name, phone number, or physical address
- Payment or financial information
- Any information about children (our site provides information about safeguarding but does not collect data from minors)
- Sensitive personal data or special category data
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. We use a minimal number of cookies:
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Maintains session state | 2 years |
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or social media cookies. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not affect the core content of this site.
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), we process your data on the following bases:
- Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) for analytics. We have a legitimate interest in understanding how visitors use our site so we can improve it. This processing is minimal, uses anonymised IPs, and does not significantly affect your privacy.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for email collection. By submitting your email address, you consent to us storing it and contacting you about our launch. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers necessary to run this site:
- Google LLC (analytics processing, US). Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- EmailOctopus / Three Fifteen Labs Ltd (email list management, UK).
- Cloudflare Inc (DNS and security, US). Cloudflare processes connection data to deliver the site and protect against attacks.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
6. Data retention
- Analytics data: Retained by Google Analytics for 14 months, then automatically deleted.
- Email addresses: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, or until 6 months after our full site launch (whichever is sooner), at which point we will ask you to re-confirm your subscription.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict how we process your data
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Portability of your data in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time (for email subscriptions)
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@neglect.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection supervisory authority.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including serving our site over HTTPS (encrypted connection), using security headers, and limiting access to stored data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
9. Children's privacy
Our site provides information about safeguarding and neglect but is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version. For significant changes, we will notify email subscribers directly.
